This is the first chair I made in Derbyshire since my family and I relocated a short time ago. The timber is a mix of origins, the olive ash bow was steam-bent in the woodland of East Sussex where I learned my craft, the stick parts - legs, spindles & stretchers - were the last of my Leicestershire ash stock, and the seat is locally sourced beech kindly gifted to me soon after coming to Derbyshire. This chair has been on display at the Haarlem Shop in Wirksworth and last year’s Perennial exhibition (alongside the OTHER Wirksworth chair maker) and has come with me to every event I’ve done. A lot of people have sat in this chair and every person of every possible size and shape has remarked at just how comfortable it is. I’ll be making a lot more of these in the future.
The design is rooted in Scandinavia and takes a healthy dose of style from my teacher, Jason Moserri. It’s an amazing all-rounder. You can sit back and read or watch the world, use it at desk to work in comfort, or dine in style. It has spent the last year at our dining table in fact, and it’s a firm favourite. Consequent to this use there are couple of superficial marks and the ivory colour of freshly finished ash has begun to age into amber and butterscotch tones.
The usual price for these chairs with a figured wood seat is £850. As the condition of this one straddles ex-display and used I’m offering it at a brisk discount. It’s been given some tlc and a nice new coat of my own linseed oil & beeswax finish.
I’m happy to deliver this locally, though the purchaser is welcome to collect. Shipping is likely to vary by your location but will be in the £100 area. Please get in touch after purchase and we can figure out the right arrangements.
